Recently there has been an offensive against Rojava, or the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria by Turkey. With that, the Syrian Government also is participating in this invasion of Rojava. The Invasion began about 2 months ago on October 9, when the United States withdrew its forces from Syria. The Rojava conflict began when Syria withdrew its forces from the north east of Syria, with a Kurdish Libertarian Socialist guerrilla group founded what is now Rojava. Now its under threat by Turkey and Syria.
What we can learn from this and other examples of Libertarian Socialism before that, is that libertarian socialism has mostly come about during times of war. Specifically, with the CNT (an anarcho-syndicalist union) during the Spanish civil war where for about 3 years there was a Libertarian Socialist society in north eastern Spain. It was relatively successful, with most if not all of the workplaces becoming worker cooperatives. However as history shows, Francisco Franco annexed the territory. Being very similar to the current situation in north eastern Syria under Rojava. What we can learn is to not come out and incite revolution when there's so much that can go wrong. The best examples of Libertarian Socialism like the Zapatistas, have a large cultural grip within the areas they control. so therefore, the middle of a civil war where there's a large cultural majority to crush your peoples militia isn't a good idea. First, gain control over the cultural conditions, then incite revolution.
